Spiritual approach to fine food
The Yarra Leader, June 27 2005

Its name is a mouthful and the food is bound to fill a space in your stomach after a hard day's shopping on Bridge Rd.

The Rainbow-Silence-Heart vegetarian eatery is not only attracting vegans but also the health-conscious looking for an alternative to the pizza and pasta joints on offer in Richmond.

Eatery owner Kate Hall said the business had sprung 10 years ago from a group of mediation devotees who adopted a vegetarian lifestyle as part of their spiritual beliefs.

Hall said the eatery was an extension of the meditation group and all its staff were members of the group. She said the café's aim was to produce "yummy food that happens to be vegetarian" and sources recipes from like minded restaurants around the world.

Chef Tristan Boyle, who has no formal qualifications, has worked at the eatery since its inception and learned different cooking styles from training with chefs in New York and California.

Hall said meals also catered for people with special needs such as vegans and coeliacs. Customer favourites include the neatloaf, a blend of cottage cheese, eggs and tofu, lasagne and a rotating choice of four salads.
